Security Expert's Take on FOX News Twitter Hack

FOX 11 News video report.

Updated: Tuesday, 05 Jul 2011, 7:20 PM PDT
Published : Tuesday, 05 Jul 2011, 7:20 PM PDT

Los Angeles - Stan Stahl is the President of Citadel Information Group, an information security management company.

He's an expert on the ways and motivations of hackers.

FOX 11's Susan Hirasuna spoke with him about the FOX News Twitter and Apple hacks earlier this week in the video report.

Story Script:

NO CREDIT CARD NUMBERS WERE STOLEN AND NO EMAIL ADDRESSES WERE HARVESTED, BUT ON THE MOST PATRIOTIC DAY OF THE YEAR... FOX NEWS REPORTS ITS TWITTER ACCOUNT WAS HACKED, AND THE HACKERS SENT OUT MALICIOUS AND FALSE TWEETS.

PRESIDENT OBAMA ENJOYED THE HOLIDAY WITH HIS FAMILY SAFE AND SOUND IN WASHINGTON, BUT TWITTER FOLLOWERS OF FOX NEWS POLITICS WOKE UP THIS MORNING TO READ "BREAKING NEWS....PRESIDENT @BARACK OBAMA ASSASSINATED."

THE SECRET SERVICE IS NOW INVESTIGATING.

FOX NEWS TWEETED A LINK TO FOXNEWS.COM WITH A STATEMENT THAT READ IN PART:

"FOXNEWS.COM WAS WORKING WITH TWITTER TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE ... WE WILL BE REQUESTING A DETAILED INVESTIGATION FROM TWITTER ABOUT HOW THIS OCCURRED, AND MEASURES TO PREVENT FUTURE UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS INTO FOXNEWS.COM ACCOUNTS."

FOX NEWS NOT THE ONLY ONE GIFTED WITH A HOLIDAY HACK.

AN APPLE SERVER WAS APPARENTLY HACKED INTO LATE SUNDAY. NOT MUCH WAS TAKEN... A FEW USER NAMES AND PASSWORDS... BUT THE SUGGESTION IS: TODAY, A LOWLY APPLE SERVER. TOMORROW ITUNES?

NO STATEMENT FROM APPLE.

TWO HACKS THIS MONTHS. MANY MORE SINCE THE START OF 2011: SONY PLAYSTATION, CITIGROUP, THE CIA, AND EA GAMES... AND THAT'S THE SHORT LIST.
