Los Angeles - A heated battle is brewing between Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca and a politician from Indiana. Congressman Mark Souder has made some explosive insinuations that Baca is a terrorist sympathizer.
Sheriff Lee Baca:
"When my work is criticized by a member of Congress, you better believe I'm angry."
Sheriff Lee Baca is upset over what Congressman Mark Souder of Indiana said to him last week.
The sheriff was invited to talk at a Homeland Security subcommittee meeting in Washington. He talked about how he's worked daily with the Muslim-American community ever since 9/11 to form alliances to fight terrorism... successful and working relationships.
Last week, Republican Congressman Souder questioned Baca's relationship with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which he implies is bent on the destruction of Israel.
Baca said he was mad that someone in Congress would suggest that he was doing something inappropriate.
Sheriff Lee Baca:
"If this congressman thinks i'm cozying up to Muslims the wrong way, he ought to get on board and learn how to be a diplomat himself and learn about the faith."
Baca adds that, having served in the United States Marine Corps, he has stood up for what this country believes in.
