Los Angeles - "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." When John F. Kennedy Jr. spoke those words, it was to spark a nation into service. This week’s Wednesday’s Child features a teen in foster care that seems to embody the essence of those profound words.
We invited Edana (1995) to join us at the Wednesday’s Child home base, the news studio of FOX 11 in Los Angeles for a behind the scenes tour of making the news and the prep work that goes into each broadcast. It quickly became evident that Edana is a well-spoken and confident young lady as she went completely solo in her interview to talk about her hopes and dreams.
Edana shared that she hopes to be a social worker someday because social workers in her life have had a positive impact. In addition to the social worker option, Edana tells us she’s also considering becoming a pediatrician and getting her training through the military by becoming an officer. She feels that it’s important to give back and to serve others and feels that she can offer much to others given the tough situations in her life and her resilience and ability to overcome them. She has a positive attitude about life and her actions often speak as loud as her words when it comes to giving to others.
Edana loves stuffed animals but currently doesn’t have any of her own because she always seems to give them away when she encounters someone who is in need of a little extra tender loving care. When Edana gets some money for allowances or as a gift she has a tendency to end up spending it on something for someone else rather than herself.
We’re hoping to find a "gift" for this sensitive, eloquent and giving youth that she could share without giving up - a forever family! While Edana already has some admirable grown-up strengths and characteristics, she would benefit from the support and sense of belonging that being part of a family gives.
