For Dayveon, participating in team sports and trying to live …
Los Angeles - Over the holidays, a long-time community partner – the LA Kings – hosted another event for our Wednesday’s Child families. We met on the Nokia Plaza at LA Live for a family skate followed by a hockey game, Kings vs. Ducks. In addition to the many adopted Wednesday’s Child alum and their families, we also invited this week’s Wednesday’s Child, Gabriel. Gabriel (1997) learned to skate with the help of our Wednesday’s Child families and friends and LA Kings hockey great, Daryl Evans.
Gabriel can be a bit shy and quiet at first but he soon got into the groove of skating once he started receiving plenty of encouragement and help from everyone around him. Gabriel likes sports but only as a spectator. His personal focus is on academics and is goal-driven. He wants to become and Electrical Engineer someday and has the grades to propel him into college.
Gabriel’s was recently recruited to participate in the Leadership Education and Development Program (LEAP) at school and hopes to one day attend UCLA. He recently received his results from the statewide STAR testing in school and he scored in the advanced range in almost every subject. Gabriel loves to read science fiction books and watch action movies. He enjoys all types of food and emphasizes that he even likes his vegetables while also admitting that he has a bit of a sweet tooth. Gabriel has eclectic tastes when it comes to music, listening to anything from hip hop and rap to country music. He hopes to one day find a family who will help him grow into a successful young man.
