Los Angeles - The Los Angeles Lakers were privately fuming Wednesday night over the trade that saw star point guard Chris Paul sent from the New Orleans Hornets to the Clippers, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing a person with knowledge of the team's front office.
The Lakers had a deal in place to acquire Paul from the league-owned Hornets last week, but NBA commissioner David Stern controversially nixed it.
Now that Paul has ended up at their LA rivals, the Lakers are reportedly not happy.
Making matters worse for the Lakers on Wednesday was the news the Orlando Magic had decided to end all trade talks regarding their star center Dwight Howard.
The Lakers had been talking with the Magic for the past two weeks about a potential deal.
A league executive familiar with the situation told CBS Sports that the Magic will revisit trade talks for Howard following the All-Star break, which is scheduled for Feb. 24-26 in Orlando. The 2011-12 trade deadline is March 15.
The Paul deal, meanwhile, sees the Clippers send guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman and forward Al-Farouq Aminu to the Hornets, along with the 2012 first-round draft pick it received from the Timberwolves in 2005. The Clippers will also receive two future second-round picks.
