Diddy's Son to Play Football at UCLA

The son of hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs has committed to play football at UCLA.

Justin Combs, a cornerback at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, N.Y., officially announced his college choice Monday night, choosing the Bruins despite the firing of head coach Rick Neuheisel.

"I'm committed to UCLA," said the five-foot-nine, 170-pounder. "I was silently committed to UCLA for a while, but now was the time. I have faith in the program that everything will be OK. My love for UCLA is so strong. I trust and know that everything will work out."

UCLA announced Monday that Neuheisel will be dismissed after Friday's Pac-12 title game at Oregon regardless of the outcome.

Combs put himself on the map with strong showings at camps since the spring, including competing over the summer on the Goon Squad, one of the nation's top seven-on-seven football teams.

Combs told Scout he was proud to be able to earn a football scholarship on his own merits, regardless of his father's reputation.

"Most people think that he being my father, he helped get me the offers, but that's not true at all," said Combs. "I went out the whole summer, I went to all the seven-on-sevens, all the college camps and I competed my butt off. I made the most of the opportunity. I did this myself. No one did this but me."

He added that his father was proud of his decision.

"I spoke to my parents and they just told me since I have strong love, to commit to UCLA," said Combs. "My dad is really happy for me and told me to just work hard and have faith and everything will work out for me, and it did."

Combs had visited Illinois officially and was supposed to visit UCLA in mid-December.
