NEWARK, N.J. - Martin Brodeur set a National Hockey League record for games played by a goaltender and helped make the milestone a win with 27 saves and an assist, leading the New Jersey Devils to a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Friday night.

Brodeur passed Patrick Roy with his 1,030th appearance. Roy, who played for Montreal and Colorado, played 18 seasons. Brodeur is in his 16th season, all with New Jersey.

Jay Pandolfo snapped a second-period tie with a late goal and defenseman Bryce Salvador scored his first of the season for the Devils (24-8-1) with a little more than 10 minutes left.

Jamie Langenbrunner and Brian Rolston scored early goals for the Devils.

Alexandre Picard and Jarkko Ruutu scored for Ottawa (17-13-4), which lost for the ninth straight time to New Jersey, dating to Oct. 27, 2007. Brian Elliot made 18 saves.

Rookie Viktor Stalberg and Lee Stempniak scored for the Maple Leafs (12-16-7).

Vesa Toskala, making his seventh straight start, was pulled after allowing the four second-period goals on six shots. He finished with six saves before giving way to Jonas Gustavsson, who gave up a goal on 17 shots in his first appearance since undergoing a heart procedure in early December.

Brad Winchester, T.J. Oshie and Keith Tkachuk all scored for the Blues, who fell to 6-11-2 on home ice. They also have the fewest home points in the NHL (14).

Blackhawks 5, Bruins 4, SO

CHICAGO -- Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews scored shootout goals, spoiling an otherwise outstanding game for Boston goalie Tim Thomas and leading the surging Blackhawks over the Bruins.

Despite blowing three one-goal leads and having its shutout streak snapped at 150 minutes, 43 seconds, Chicago improved its NHL-best home record to 15-3-1.

Toews, Kris Versteeg, Patrick Sharp and Andrew Ladd scored during regulation for the Blackhawks, who defeated Boston for the first time in almost six years.

Thomas made 40 saves, many of them acrobatic stops, but couldn't prevent the Bruins from losing their third straight game. David Krejci scored twice for Boston, including the goal that forced overtime with 2:43 left in regulation.
