Are Streetcars Coming Back to Los Angeles?

Updated: Friday, 04 Nov 2011, 12:04 AM PDT

Los Angeles - Many people screaming for a better rapid transit system in Los Angeles don't remember that streetcars once connected almost every downtown district and beyond. Metro is now planning to restore the historic streetcar service.

Another public meeting was held Thursday night to help figure out which routes and which proposals to move forward with.

All of the plans have one thing in common... nine blocks of broadway boulevard will be the backbone.

The hope is that streetcar service will help revitalize Downtown Los Angeles and connect people with shops, landmarks, and entertainment venues.

FOX 11's Tony Valdez takes a look at the history of Los Angeles streetcars in the video report.
