La Canada Flintridge - Mandatory evacuation orders remained in place Tuesday night for residents of more than 500 homes in La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Acton.
Regardless of what a possible second band of showers may do overnight, the evacuation orders for foothill residents were expected to remain in place until Wednesday morning, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Matt Levesque.
By noon on Tuesday, an estimated 62 percent of residents had complied with the 10 a.m. deadline to leave their homes, said Steve Whitmore of the sheriff's department.
Flash flooding and debris flows were considered possible tonight, in and below recent burn areas of Los Angeles County, according to the National Weather Service.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works warned that "moderate" debris and mudflows could completely block some streets and endanger some structures in La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Glendale.
The homes appearing on a 27-page list of addresses include 247 in La Canada Flintridge, 224 in La Crescenta, and 56 in Acton, Soledad Canyon and Aliso Canyon.
The orders announced late Monday followed criticism leveled against local and federal officials since rains unleashed debris flows and flooding early Saturday, endangering some hillside residents in La Canada Flintridge.
The intensity of that storm was unexpected, and was not preceded by evacuation orders.
