Anderson Cooper 'Saddened' After Teenage Accident

(NewsCore) - Television host Anderson Cooper said Monday that he was "saddened" to learn that a teenager had been seriously injured while performing a stunt for Cooper's new daytime talk show.

The website Gawker reported over the weekend that producers of "Anderson" encouraged the teen, whose identity was not reported, to "film the crazy stuff you do" for an episode about teenagers.

The teen fell while videotaping himself skateboarding. He suffered a serious head injury in the accident and fell into a coma, according to Gawker.

"I was very saddened to hear the news of this accident, and want to express my deepest concerns for the teenager who was injured," Cooper said in a statement issued by a representative. "I take this situation seriously, and my thoughts and prayers for his health, well-being and recovery are with him and his family."

In a separate statement, the show's producers said they routinely ask guests to supply the show with video and photos, and did not provide the teenager's family with the video camera he used to videotape himself.

Producers are "very concerned" about the teen and "are thinking of him and his family at this time," the statement concluded.

The "Anderson" episode on "the science of the teenage brain" did not air.
