(NewsCore) - The long-running feud between Elton John and Madonna shows no signs of abating after it erupted again at the Golden Globe Awards.
John lost out to Madonna at the Sunday ceremony, with the British star's husband David Furnish taking to his Facebook page to criticize the American Queen of Pop's "embarrassing" victory speech.
Madonna won Best Original Song for her tune "Masterpiece" from "W.E.," which she also directed.
"'Madonna. Best song???? [expletive removed] Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit," Furnish wrote, according to Us Weekly.
"Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism. And her criticism of [Lady] Gaga shows how desperate she really is."
In an interview last week, Madonna said when she first heard US pop star Lady Gaga's song "Born This Way" she thought it sounded "familiar" and "reductive" -- a reference to widespread comment that it was very similar to Madonna's own "Express Yourself."
Lady Gaga is the godmother to John and Furnish's son, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, who was born via a surrogate on Christmas Day, 2010.
Prior to the Globes ceremony, John was asked on the red carpet what he thought of his rival's chances of winning the Golden Globe. He responded, "Mary J. [Blige] might win for 'The Help' -- Madonna hasn't got a ... chance."
When NBC's Carson Daly responded, "Those are fighting words," John quickly replied, "They're accurate words!"
Asked on the red carpet to respond to John's comments, Madonna replied, "Damn him ... May the best man win."
Backstage at the Globes, 53-year-old Madonna was hopeful that her win wouldn't irk John, 64.
"I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years," she said. "He's been known to get mad at me so I don't know. He's brilliant and I adore him so he'll win another award. I don't feel bad!"
Their ongoing feud began in 2004 when he accused her of miming after she won a Best Live Act award at the GQ Awards.
