(EndPlay Staff Reports) - Every year, Girl Scouts all around the country start peddling cookies just in time for dieters to break their new year's resolutions. This year is no exception, and to make things worse for those trying to make friends with the scale, a new variety of cookie will be touted this year.
Meet Savannah Smiles, a crescent-shaped lemon cookie confection dusted in delectable powdered sugar.
According to information from the Girl Scouts news blog , these little zesty bites have been released to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting and are inspired by founder Juliette Gordon Low's hometown of Savannah, Ga.
Savannah Smiles will join a long tradition of treats created by the Little Brownie Bakers sold to help fund local Girl Scout councils. Girl Scouts have been selling cookies – including favorites like Samoas, Do-so-dis, Tagalogs, Trefoils and Thin Mints – since 1917. About 70 percent of the proceeds from the annual cookie sales stay in the community to support scouting in that area, according to information from GirlScouts.org .
Want to know exactly when Girl Scout cookies will be for sale in your area? There's an app for that. Cookie Finder , available for free download for iOS devices, will use the GPS on your iPhone, iPad or iPod to locate the date and time of Girl Scout cookie sales nearby. No cookies near you? The Cookie Finder app will help you contact a local Girl Scout Council to help you place an order.
