Kiefer Sutherland Returns With 'Touch'

(EndPlay Staff Reports) - Fans of the hit show "24" will be pleased to know that Kiefer Sutherland is returning to Fox in the new emotional drama "Touch." However, his new character, Martin Brohm, is much different than Jack Bauer, and saves the world in a different way.

"Touch" is about a mute boy named Jake who can predict the future. Sutherland plays the boy's father, a widower from the Sept. 11 attacks, who realizes his son has a special gift.

Jake is able to see patterns that connect seemingly unrelated events. He communicates with numbers. Martin has to decipher the meaning and connect the numbers to people and events.

The new Fox drama is from the creator of the former NBC sci-fi drama "Heroes," Tim Kring.

Although Kring admits that there are similarities between "Heroes" and "Touch," with a storyline revolving around a "superpower," he told TV Guide that "Touch" will be a more procedural show with new characters every week and a new problem to solve. The focus will not be on what caused the "superpower."

When asked if "Touch" would ever explore the "mythology" behind Jake's power, Kring didn't think so and explained, "Because it's really hard to do. It's really, really hard to do that and hard because you can get overwhelmed by that. The show can get wrapped around mythology really easily, and then get dragged down by it … That being said, there is a mythology that will hang over the top of it. We do posit the idea that something is going on with this boy and that there's mystery surrounding it."

Co-starring Danny Glover, "Touch" will have a special premiere Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET on FOX and will begin its regular schedule in March.
