Mike Myers in Talks over 'Austin Powers' Musical, Fourth Film

(The New York Post) - Mike Myers is in talks to turn his series of hit "Austin Powers" spy-spoof flicks into a Broadway musical.

Myers, who wrote and starred in the three wildly popular movies, now hopes to turn groovy 1960s-era secret agent Powers into an all-singing, all-dancing theatrical production.

A source close to 48-year-old Myers confirmed to the New York Post, "Mike is in talks to turn 'Austin Powers' into a musical stage show. Mike would be heavily involved in writing the show, but he will not star in it, even though he has quite a good singing voice."

Myers has also signed a deal with New Line for a fourth "Austin Powers" movie, nearly a decade after the last installment. He last donned the character's false teeth and shaggy wig in 2002's "Goldmember."

Sources said Myers reached a deal a few months ago to write, produce and star in the fourth film in the series after lengthy talks with New Line.

One source said, "The deal is in place, and Mike is currently writing the new 'Austin Powers' film. But no date has yet been set to start filming. It is not yet clear if this will be a 2013 or 2014 release." His reps declined to comment.

"Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" first hit theaters in 1997, followed by "The Spy Who Shagged Me" in 1999 and then 2002's "Goldmember." The trilogy grossed more than a staggering $676 million worldwide.

Myers last voiced the title character in DreamWorks' "Shrek" franchise. He had a small role in 2009's "Inglourious Basterds." Myers' last lead movie role was in Paramount's "The Love Guru" in 2008, which grossed just $40.8 million worldwide following a tough reception from critics.
