'Hangover Part II' Producers Sued for Using Fake Louis Vuitton Bag in Film

(NewsCore) - "Hangover Part II" producers are being sued by Louis Vuitton for featuring a fake version of the luxury brand's luggage in the raunchy comedy.

The French fashion house took issue with an airport scene in which actor Zach Galifianakis -- who plays Alan Garner in the film -- carries a bag marked LVM and tells his colleague "Careful, that is ... that is a Louis Vuitton."

But it wasn't a Louis Vuitton product and was instead manufactured by the Chinese American company Diophy, which is being sued by Louis Vuitton for distributing fake look-a-like items.

In a complaint filed Thursday against Warner Bros. in New York, Louis Vuitton claimed the knockoff creates "a likelihood that the public will be confused that Louis Vuitton ... sponsored or approved of the Diophy Bag," according to the court papers posted on PaidContent.org.

The company, a division of LVMH Moet Hennessy, is seeking to stop the release of the scenes with the fake handbag and is also seeking monetary damages.

This is just the latest in a slew of legal disputes the movie -- which has earned over $580 million since its May release -- has faced.

Warner Bros. previously resolved a dispute with tattoo artist S. Victor Whitmill, who sued the studio in April saying he did not give permission for the company to mimic the design he tattooed on boxer Mike Tyson for actor Ed Helms' character in the sequel.

In August, Australian stuntman Scott McLean sued Warner Bros. for alleged negligence during a Bangkok car chase sequence that left him with "permanent brain and physical injuries" as well as "ongoing seizures, speech impediments, physical impediments and brain trauma."

Additionally, a screenwriter sued Warner Bros. in October, claiming his ideas were stolen and used in the movie's scripts.
