An earthquake which struck central Indiana at 6:55 a.m. local time Thursday, was later revised down to 3.8 magnitude by the U.S. Geological Survey.
The epicenter of the quake, a rare event for the area, was recorded 50 miles north-northeast of Indianapolis at a depth of just three miles, USGS added.
Local newspaper the Indy Star quoted Gabrielle Sauce, of Noblesville, Ind., as saying she was sitting on her couch when "the house began to rattle and shake." She added, "It lasted probably five to seven seconds."
On social networking site Twitter locals wrote that their houses shook, doors rattled and the earthquake sounded like rolling thunder.
