Woman Sues Google Maps After Being Struck By Car

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - A Utah woman is suing Google after she followed Google Map's walking directions and was hit by a car.

According to Danny Sullivan at SearchEngineLand.com , Lauren Rosenberg followed the directions as she walked in Park City, Utah. She followed them to the point where she walked along a busy highway with no pedestrian walkway.

As she walked along Highway 224 she was struck by Patrick Harwood. Now she's suing both Hardwood and Google, claiming both had responsibility.

According to Mashable, she claimed that Google is liable because it did not warn her that the route did not offer a safe place for pedestrians. Mashable showed that Google Maps did show a warning, but Rosenberg said she used Google Maps on her BlackBerry, which did not show the warning.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that Rosenberg filed the lawsuit in Utah's U.S. District Court. She is suing Harwood and Google for more than $100,000.

According to the Tribune, the lawsuit states that she sought instruction on Jan. 19, 2009, from Google Maps on her BlackBerry for directions to walk from 96 Daly Ave. to 1710 Prospector Ave. in Park City.

Her lawsuit claims that "Google undertook the duty to exercise reasonable care in providing safe directions to patrons of its Google Maps service. [But] Google failed to warn plaintiff Rosenberg of said known dangers."
