New 'Blue Marble' Photo of Earth

(EndPlay Staff Reports) - Are you ready for a whole new look at the world?

If so, you'll need to check this out. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center has just shared a new  breathtaking, high-definition photo of the Earth.

According to a NASA , the new "Blue Marble" image come from the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership. The satellite "is the first of a new generation of satellites that will observe many facets of our changing Earth."

This particular image was taken using the Visible/Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite or VIIRS. The photo is actually a composite image, featuring several swaths of the Earth's surface taken on Jan. 4.

The latest image is another installment of NASA's " Blue Marble " series, which started in 1972 with pictures taken onboard Apollo 17 with a 70mm camera.

If the original Blue Marble looks familiar to you, you're not alone.

If you are among the millions of world-wide iPhone users, you've most likely seen the image hundreds – if not thousands – of times, as it was the default background on several different iPhones. According to a Gizmodo report , the original image has been public since 2001.
