Mom Who Killed Son to 'Prevent Apocalypse' Found Not Guilty in Insanity Plea

(NewsCore) - A Texas woman who said the devil made her kill and mutilate her newborn son was found not guilty by reason of insanity Thursday, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Otty Sanchez, 33, was ordered at court hearing in San Antonio to stay at a maximum security mental facility after the defense attorney provided reports from three psychologists who determined she was insane.

Sanchez was arrested after police found the mutilated and dismembered body of her three-week old son, Scott W. Buchholz Sanchez, inside her home in San Antonio on July 26, 2009.

Sanchez, who was already diagnosed with schizophrenia, told authorities she had been hearing voices and killing her son was necessary to prevent an apocalypse, her attorney said.

She will appear in court within 30 days after psychologists at the North Texas State Hospital Vernon facility re-evaluate her mental state.

Her case will be reviewed annually by the judge.
