Target Recalls LED Flashlight Sets

(NewsCore) (MarketWatch) - Target Corp. agreed to voluntarily recall thousands of LED flashlight sets due to fire and burn hazards, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

About 55,000 six-piece LED flashlight sets will be recalled in the US because the flashlight can heat up, smoke or melt, posing hazards to consumers. Target has received four reports of incidents, including two minor burn injuries to consumers' hands.

The flashlights are made of silver plastic with black rubber around the handle and light base. The product was sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide from October 2010 through December 2011 for about $10 a set.

The agency asked consumers to stop using the flashlights immediately and to return them to a Target store for a full refund.

In recent months, Target has agreed to recall about 3,400 children's frog masks due to a suffocation hazard, 447,000 Embark resistance cords and cord kits due to an injury hazard, 304,000 Chefmate blenders due to a laceration hazard and about 547,000 step stools with storage due to a fall hazard.

Earlier Thursday, Target lowered its earnings outlook for the fiscal fourth quarter based on softer-than-expected holiday season sales and December same-store sales that came in well below estimates.

In recent trading, Target shares were down nearly three percent. The stock is down 18 percent in the past 12 months.
