(NewsCore) - A "cellulose fiber," which was probably wadded up toilet paper, was determined to be the suspicious "white substance" which sparked an alert at Santa Ana's John Wayne Airport on Friday, KABC-TV reported.
After the substance was found in the restroom on the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 a hazardous-materials team was alerted and the passengers evacuated off Flight 508 after it landed about 4:00pm at the Orange County facility.
After the Orange County Fire Authority investigated, an airport spokeswoman, Rachel Gibson, said the haz-mat team had cleared the substance after determining that it was "benign."
She said it was described to her as "cellulose fiber" and since it was found in a restroom it may have been wadded up toilet paper.
The passengers were allowed to leave the airport after the substance was determined to be harmless.
