Detroit Lions Lose Best for Year

(NewsCore) - The controversy over Ndamukong Suh distracted from more bad news for the Detroit Lions, who confirmed that running back Jahvid Best will be placed on injured reserve.

The team's announcement Friday afternoon, which effectively ends Best's season, was not a surprise, FOX Sports Detroit reported.

He has not played since sustaining his second concussion of the year in a loss to Atlanta in the Lions' sixth game.

It left the Lions mulling his replacement, while wondering what price Suh will pay for kicking an opponent in the team's loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday.

Suh was ejected in the third quarter Thursday for stomping on the right arm of Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith.

He was involved in a scrum with the Green Bay player and could be seen slamming his opponent's head to the turf multiple times before getting up and stomping on him with his right foot.

Suh's rambling postgame comments that he did not really stomp on Dietrich-Smith only added fuel to the outrage his action sparked.

Suh issued an apology Friday in which he described his conduct as "unacceptable" -- the same word the Lions used to condemn his actions in an issued statement.

The NFL's normal protocol is for all potential disciplinary breaches to be reviewed at the end of each week's games, and the league said Suh's ejection would not be an exception.
