(NewsCore) - Former MVP Allen Iverson is hoping his play at an upcoming Las Vegas tournament alongside a slew of top players will earn him one last shot in the NBA.
Iverson, 36, will be one of the four team captains and the host of the Las Vegas Superstar Challenge Nov 12-13.
"I wanted organizations to see me play and see what I can do on a high level against high level people," Iverson told Yahoo! Sports Thursday, adding that he is willing to "play for anybody" once the lockout is resolved.
The four-time scoring champion played briefly in Turkey last season after failing to draw interest from any NBA teams as a free agent. He underwent calf surgery in January, ending his season with Turkish club Besiktas.
Iverson said in the interview he was not fully focused during the 2009-10 season with Philadelphia due to his daughter's health problems and his divorce.
"That wasn't me at all," Iverson told Yahoo! Sports. "Obviously, I was dealing with the situation with my daughter and going through a divorce, and I wasn't there mentally."
But he said his personal life is more settled now and is hoping for one more chance to prove he can still play on a high level.
"When it does end, it's going to end on a much better note than this right here. This is not the way it's going to end. Even if I do have to go overseas to play in a competitive situation, it's not going to end like this."
Iverson is slated to play on a team featuring several NBA stars, including Kevin Durant, Amar'e Stoudemire, Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson, Zach Randolph and Andre Iguodala. The winners of the first two games Nov. 12 will meet the following day.
Among the other players expected to compete -- as long as the NBA lockout is still in effect -- are Monta Ellis, Tyreke Evans, Stephen Jackson, and David Lee, along with rookies Jimmer Fredette, Derrick Williams, and Kemba Walker.
