(NewsCore Reports) - NASCAR team owner Jack Roush was in a hospital Tuesday night after being involved in a plane crash at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Fox affiliate WLUK reported.
The twin engine Beechcraft Premiere jet skidded off the runway when landing at the airport about 6:15pm local time and stopped in a grassy area.
Roush was flying the plane from Detroit and he and the only other occupant, Roush's friend Brenda Strickland, were able to walk away from the aircraft.
NASCAR journalist Bob Margolis, who is writing a book about Roush's life, told ESPN neither occupant was seriously injured.
"Jack got out and had some blood on his face," Margolis said.
"Apparently he bumped his head. They both were taken to a local hospital for observation, but I've been told they are OK."
Roush was transported to Theda Clark Hospital where he is in serious but stable condition.
Roush, an aviation buff, was to attend the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual AirVenture in Oshkosh this week.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident, but the cause was not immediately known.
Roush, 69, is the founder, CEO, and co-owner along with John Henry of Roush Fenway Racing -- a NASCAR team headquartered in Concord, North Carolina -- and is Chairman of the Board of Roush Enterprises.
Rarely seen without his trademark Panama hat, Roush is known on the NASCAR circuit as: "The Cat in the Hat."
He was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006.
