NBA Owners, Union To Continue Negotiations

(NewsCore) - After back-to-back days of talks between NBA owners and players' union representatives in New York Wednesday and Thursday, the two parties have agreed to meet again next week in a bid to end the two-month-old lockout, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Jeffrey Kessler, an attorney for the players' association, said after the meeting in New York on Thursday that the parties would resume talks Tuesday.

The two sides are attempting to save the NBA season, due to start next month, by bridging their differences over the league's finances. Team owners want to lower player compensation, with the league claiming that 23 of 30 teams lost money in the 2009-10 season.

NBA Commissioner David Stern and union executive Billy Hunter admitted Wednesday there was still time to save the season.

"We have three weeks," Stern told reporters in New York, referring to the scheduled start of training camp Oct. 1. "We agreed that we're going to sit here for as many days as we can to see if we're going to be able to make progress."
