NY, Boston Bar Owners' Super Bowl Rivalry

(NewsCore) - A rivalry between bar owners in New York and Boston was brewing Saturday, more than a week before the Giants take on the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

Shaun Clancy, the owner of Foley's Pub in Manhattan, and Ken Casey, who owns McGreevy's bar in Boston, agreed a friendly wager that will see both Irish establishments battle it out to sell the most shepherd's pies, The Patriot Ledger reported.

The challenge to shift the traditional meat-and-potatoes dish will run from Super Bowl Sunday, which falls Feb. 5, until Major League Baseball's Opening Day on Mar. 28, with the loser forced to bartend in the victor's bar while wearing his rival team's jersey.

"Clancy better add some red and white to all that blue he's wearing," Casey said. "He's going to be making a 200-mile drive north, wearing a Tom Brady jersey and pouring us pints of Sam Adams."

Clancy stoked the contest further to declare that Foley's would be banning the sale of the Boston-based lager during the NFL championship game in Indianapolis.

And while the dual may be partly motivated by a push for extra business during a lean stretch in the sporting calendar, both men insist the money raised in the challenge will be for the benefit of local charities.
