(NewsCore) - Wide receiver Tiquan Underwood, who was cut by the Patriots the night before Super Bowl XLVI, was re-signed Tuesday by the team, the Boston Herald reported.

The initial release drew a sharp outcry, with many criticizing head coach Bill Belichick for releasing Underwood on the eve of the Super Bowl, which the New York Giants went on to win 21-17.

The 24-year-old former Rutgers star, though obviously disappointed, handled the news of his release professionally.

"This Is Nothing But MOTIVATION," Underwood wrote on Twitter.

"I Been Thru A LOT...But There Are Ppl In This World w/ More Serious Problems So I Cant Hang The Head....Thank You Lord #Blessed."

Rookie defensive end Alex Silvestro was added to the 53-man roster, taking Underwood's spot. Belichick opted to go with Silvestro in order to have more depth on the defensive line.
