(NewsCore) - Even if the Denver Broncos had advanced to the AFC Championship Game, quarterback Tim Tebow's status would have been a major question mark.
According to ESPN, Tebow tore cartilage in his first rib early in the third quarter of the 45-10 drubbing at New England. Tebow also reportedly bruised his lung and had fluid buildup in the plural space of his chest.
Tebow was injured on a hit after he threw a pass. He finished the game despite his team trailing 35-7 at the time, and had an MRI on his chest Monday.
Tebow's season ended with a nightmarish performance against the Patriots, with him completing just nine of 26 passes for 136 yards.
The 24-year-old sparked Denver on an unexpected late-season surge to win the AFC West, then led an overtime Wild Card victory, beating Pittsburgh on an 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas.
