Woods' Win Drought Continues In Australia

Updated: Sunday, 13 Nov 2011, 10:06 AM PST

(NewsCore) - Tiger Woods fell short of a first tournament victory in two years Sunday, firing a five-under 67 in the Australian Open fourth round for an 11-under total, two strokes behind eventual winner Greg Chalmers.

The former world No. 1, who turned a one-stroke lead into a six-stroke deficit with a disastrous 75 Saturday at Sydney's The Lakes, fought back brilliantly on the final day, but could not do enough to end one of the most talked about droughts in world sport.

Woods' day included five birdies and a chip-in for eagle at the par-5 14th. He had another chance for eagle at the par-5 17th after finding the green in two, but missed a crucial putt that would have put him level with Chalmers in the lead.

Bogeys at 11 and 13 also scuppered Woods' chances, but the 14-time major champion said was pleased with his weekend.

"It's nice to be competitive again. It's nice to be out here and not on the sidelines," Woods told local broadcaster Channel 10, referring to a series of injuries that saw him drop outside the world's top 50.

"It could have been a really low round today," he added, ruing his two dropped shots on the back nine. "It could have been pretty good."

Australian Chalmers followed rounds of 67, 72 and 67 with a 69 to take the spoils, breaking his own three-year tournament victory drought. It was the 38-year-old's second Australian Open victory, coming 13 years after his first.

Another Australian, overnight leader John Senden, finished in second at 12-under after shooting an even-par 72.

Woods has not won a major since the 2008 US Open and is winless overall since the Australian Masters in November 2009.
