SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Francisco Liriano struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings to win consecutive starts for the first time this season and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the San Francisco Giants 3-1 last night. Josh Harrison hit a leadoff home run in the first inning. San Francisco lost its sixth straight, matching its longest skid of the season.

HOUSTON (AP) - Slumping Brandon Moss hit a go-ahead single during a six-run rally in the ninth inning that sent the Oakland Athletics over the Houston Astros 7-4 last night. Josh Reddick homered for the AL West-leading A's and Yoenis Cespedes had three hits, including two doubles. Oakland trailed 4-1 in the ninth before pinch-hitter Alberto Callaspo had a two-run single off closer Chad Qualls (1-2).

BALTIMORE (AP) - Manny Machado homered off Cory Rasmus leading off the 12th inning to give the Baltimore Orioles a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels last night. Machado hit a 1-2 breaking ball from Rasmus (2-1) into the seats in left field to end the back-and-forth duel between AL contenders. Josh Hamilton homered and had three RBIs for the Angels, who have dropped eight of their last 11 against the Orioles.

PHOENIX (AP) - Diana Taurasi scored 17 points to help the Phoenix Mercury cruise to their 16th straight win, 90-69 over the Los Angeles Sparks last night. Nneka Ogwumike had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Sparks (12-15), who are now 2-3 under new coach Penny Toler, having lost four of the last six overall. Toler took over at the All-Star break.
