CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
In a recent article in TIME magazine, Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said that he loved Fidel Castro.
It's a risky statement to make when you manage a baseball team in Miami, a city that has the highest population of Cuban refugees in the country.
But this isn't the first time Guillen has put his foot in his mouth.
Back in 2006, he got himself in trouble for using a gay slur when he was talking about Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti.
In 2004, Guillen charged out of the dugout during the Chicago-Cleveland game. Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt accused him of spilling tobacco juice on him in the process.
Guillen responded by saying, "You're not even a pimple on your daddy's EXPLETIVE."
The former Chicago White Sox manager said he regrets his declaration regarding Castro, and he's even lost sleep over it.
Guillen plans to make a formal statement Tuesday to apologize. But is it too little too late?
Miami residents are a little more outspoken than Chicago residents regarding the issue. Despite Guillen's pending apology, protestors still call for his firing.
A columnist for the Miami Herald said Monday that his act was already wearing thin in South Florida. It looks as though whether or not Gullen will be forgiven for this one, is still up in the air.
