Winter Storm Expected to Dump Snow on Southeast Michigan

Posted:

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- A relatively calm February is about to get a blast of winter as a storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to the region.

The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for most of Southeast Michigan with the exception of Lenawee and Monroe counties where there is a Winter Weather Advisory.

Weather Authority Rich Luterman says snow will arrive tonight and continue through Friday morning. Most of Southeast Michigan will see between 3 and 5 inches of snow. The overnight low will be near 31 degrees.

Friday is blustery and cool with snow tapering off and a high of 35 degrees.

With the snow expected to hit overnight and into the morning, the early commute could certainly be a challenge.

"We expect tomorrow morning, the rush hour, will be a bit sloppy. We'll be out all night. We'll have all of our trucks out plowing probably from about 2:00 a.m. at a full force thorughthrough the morning rush and throughout the day tomorrow. But even with that, if it's snowing hard in the morning, it will, of course, be a messy rush hour. We encourage motorists to give themselves some extra time tomorrow morning and to be careful and expect the roads to be a little bit slushy tomorrow," said Craig Bryson with the Oakland County Road Commission.

In Wayne County, you can track the progress of the salt trucks and plows right from your home computer or smart phone. The county recently rolled out its Compass website. It's an interactive way you can check out the traffic trouble spots in real time. You can see live video from inside the plows with a look at where they've been and where they're going.
