A funeral is scheduled Tuesday for a West Bloomfield teen who police say was shot and killed by his own grandmother.

Jonathan Hoffman, 17, will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. at the Ira Kaufman Chapel in Southfield (click here to watch live video) . Classes at Farmington Hills Central, where Hoffman was a senior, were canceled for the day to allow students and faculty to attend the memorial.

Hoffman's grandmother, Sandra Layne, was charged Monday with open murder in her grandson's death. Police say she shot him eight times during a reported argument inside her condo on Friday. Police say the teen was on the phone with a 911 operator pleading for help when he screamed he had been shot again.

Police also say Layne, 74, answered the door holding a Glock semiautomatic handgun and told officers she had just murdered her grandson.
