A loaded .357 revolver was found on a 14-year-old Tuesday afternoon, that teen a student at Great Lakes Academy in Pontiac. He had been in trouble at school earlier in the day and sent his mother a text threatening a teacher.
According to Sheriff Michael Bouchard, the text read, "I need you to come get me. I'm about to straight up off this teacher dead in his face. He pissed me off. I'm so serious."
The student left the school. The worried mother called the principal, who locked down the school before the teen returned.
The student was not let into the school. Sheriff's deputies were called and they located him several blocks away.
They found him in the neighborhood with a gun loaded and tucked into his waistband. Parents knew the school had been locked down. They had seen the cop cars, but they had no idea it was over this.
"I didn't know anything about a gun, and this is really, really frightening," said parent Chaun Childs.
"I can't believe it's going on and my son is going here," said Jeanette Sanchez.
"Bad situation. Now I heard about a gun, so that's really kind of frightening," said parent David Witherspoon.
"He is in my class, but he's like an average student, and I was very surprised to see what went on," one teen told us.
Bouchard says the teen was arrested and taken to Children's Village. His mother may have saved lives with her call to the principal.
"With that text combined with a .357 loaded handgun in his possession, it looks like he was going there for a purpose that could've turned into, as I said, a tragic shooter situation," Bouchard said.
