Fox 2: Redefining Detroit

Fox 2 is proud to present a special half our program: Front and Center: Redefining Detroit.

Hosted by Alexis Wiley the show takes a look at how a new city is emerging.  "This is not about where we've been, but where we're going", says Wiley.

"If you live around here you know about Detroit's history, both the good and the bad," says show producer Dennis Kraniak.    "This show and commitment from Fox 2's Redefining Detroit franchise is not about looking back at the glory days of the big three, the industrial might or the Motown sound.  It's not about exploring the historical problems with segregation, urban sprawl and political scandal.  This is about what people are doing right now, in spite of whatever is going on with budgets, economy or even crime.  This is about every day movers and shakers who live in the city and are working everyday to make Detroit a better place to live.  And guess what, there are some great places to live and plenty of opportunities to get involved."

Redefining Detroit takes viewers through four Detroit neighborhoods.  Wiley starts with what many believe is the center of Detroit's re-birth, Midtown .

From there, Fox 2's Iris Perez takes us on a tour of southwest Detroit , then Amy Lange shows us how the city's east side is being recreated.  Wiley comes back with a glimpse into the success on the north side .

Opportunity knocks for entrepreneurs as Wiley delves into two organizations: Tech Town and HATCH Detroit .  Where opportunity knocks so does job growth and Wiley also shows us how an organization called Harmony Point trains workers for jobs that exist today and the future.

Fox 2's Robin Schwartz shows us how urban farming organizations are making the most out of Detroit's biggest asset besides it's people, land.

Finally Wiley introduces to Dave Lingholm , a small town guy who moved to the city because in his words, "where else could you afford a 2,000 square foot studio and be able to walk to work, to shopping and be able to hang out in many restaurants and bars."
