Golf benefit to help paralyzed student go to college

Drew Clayborn is going to the University of Michigan next fall just two years after a back flip left him paralyzed from the shoulders down. He is graduating high school on time, and has already gotten several awards and scholarships.

"It's really just an honor being able to get the money, and be able to go to the school that I want to go to," says Clayborn.

Drew will likely live at home next year and commute to Ann Arbor, but his parents are concerned about how they will afford transporting Drew to and from school, as well as a caretaker for their son while he is in classes. All are very expensive needs for Drew that are not covered by his family's insurance.

A big golf benefit for Drew will take place July 29 at the Brentwood Golf Club in White Lake, and they hope to get some big name celebrities involved to help Drew achieve his dream of attending U of M.

The case was originally about workplace discrimination. Now it's dragged on for more than a decade despite the case appearing to be one that the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation can't win.
