Aristotle: Spending a Day With Robots

Some kids just have a knack for being able to take things apart and put them back together again, or look at something and be able to methodically figure out how it works. Aristotle (1998) is such a kid and he's this week's Wednesday's Child. With his love of tinkering and technology, Ari (as he likes to be called) was happy to spend an afternoon at Rolling Robots in Glendale, California to help build a robot.

With minimal instruction, Ari was able to pick up tools and connect wires and gears. Not only does he have the physical dexterity to use fine instruments but he's also mentally able to piece together the next task that needs to happen. Ari tells us he loves anything to do with technology and hopes to have a career working with computers. Like most youth in foster care, Ari is not a stranger to disappointment – but his enduring spirit propels him to keep trying and to be available for a waiting family. While Ari was interviewed, he made a point to put on a suit jacket he brought especially for the occasion. When asked who taught him about decorum, he tells us that he draws upon positive lessons he learns from his foster parents.

There are many more life lessons to be taught and many more things to build, and Ari is eager and ready for the tasks and rewards that lie ahead.
