Is it smart to build 'Manhattan-style' residential and business tower complexes in Hollywood? To have more people living and working and walking in Hollywood - instead of driving to and from and through Hollywood?
The City Council is set to vote on the controversial Hollywood Community plan Tuesday morning. The new blueprint for the heart of LA would be a New York-style neighborhood where you could live and work without a car. (high-rise officers, restaurants, and shops)
Supporters say the new plan is needed since population is expected to grow dramatically over the next several years.
Opponents say the plan is flawed and would change the Hollywood skyline. They're concerned the new plan would give developers the green light to build super-skyscrapers as high as 75 floors, including a 55 story tower planned next to the iconic Capitol Records Building.
They say new skyscrapers would block views of the Hollywood sign, and views of the basin for residents living in the hills. They're also concerned about gridlock.
