Warning Graphic Video: The California Highway Patrol is seeking the public's help in locating three men for the brutal beating of another motorist last Tuesday, June 12.
Jerry Patterson who was knocked out by the three men says in recalling the June 12 incident: "As I remember it, I'm trying to get away," he said. "They followed me. It got to a point where they blocked me on the freeway. I couldn't back up, couldn't move forward and the guy got out of the car and I got out with him – I wasn't going to let him walk up on me – and I just defended myself to the best of my ability."
Patterson says he suffered a concussion and doesn't remember much of what happened. "Twenty-20 hindsight – stay in the car, call authorities. Don't let your ego get in the way. It's not worth it," he said.
A smartphone video of the confrontation, which was posted Tuesday on the website LiveLeak, appears to have been taken June 12 on the cell phone of Emeal Age, who says he stopped to document the incident but didn't want to get involved.
The incident occurred on the I-5 Freeway on the northbound side of Interstate 5 approaching 7th Street, near downtown Los Angeles. A CHP spokesperson says "We aware of the situation and are investigating it. Right now we are trying to find information on the victim."
A bystander shot the 2-minute video with a camera phone after noticing a group of men arguing outside their cars. Two men start punching, kicking and wrestling another man on the highway, finally pulling him down to the ground.
After delivering several hard kicks to the head, the two men rush to their VW Jetta and speed off, but not before the cameraman catches the CA license plate: 3UGW962.
Officers investigating the case are unaware of any call log or incident report about the violent scene and are asking for the publics help. A CHP Press conference is planned for Wednesday morning.
If you have more information about the violent incident depicted in this video, please call the CHP office closest to you.
