When you're a teenager - especially one who is in foster care - it can be pretty tough keeping your eyes "on the ball" and staying focused. For Dayveon (1995), participating in team sports and trying to live life by the "Golden Rule" of treating others as he wants to be treated are two main methods he tries to apply to his life to help him be the best that he can be.
Even with this level of focus and philosophy, Dayveon still is a kid and needs coaching along the way. As an active football player on his high school team, we matched Dayveon with youth mentor Chris Hayes – former member of the Super Bowl Winning Green Bay Packers – for some additional coaching. Chris helped reinforce that it's important not only to keep one's eye on the ball, but also to protect the ball. Dayveon learned both practical and figurative lessons on the need to protect oneself and one's goals and to be a team player in order to reach one's goals.
Some of Dayveon's other interests are building things and dabbling in electronics. Dayveon has been working hard to make positive changes in his life and is hopeful that one day he will be placed with a permanent family and will be able to make his mark as part of a family team.
