Julia: Adventurous And Engaging Lady With Lofty Dreams

Life can be full of adventures as well as challenges and it helps to "share the ride" through both. Those whose journey takes them into the foster care system are faced with challenges that definitely require guidance and support to help them adjust to course corrections and navigate towards milestones. Perhaps nobody knows this better than Lt. Lashanda Holmes, a former foster child who is now the Coast Guard's first African American female helicopter pilot. Lt. Holmes can be an inspiration to all, but particularly to those who are currently walking along the same trek that she once had to maneuver through… someone like Julia, this week's Wednesday's Child.

Julia (1995) is an adventurous and engaging young lady with a vibrant personality who has some lofty dreams of being a model or actor. When asked what her favorite
school subject is, Julia replied biology. During her time with Lt. Holmes, Julia was reminded of the importance – no matter what one's personal dreams or goals are – of building a solid foundation that includes positive relationships and formal education as these fortify many skills and can help provide a safety net when needed.

In addition to the insight that Lt. Holmes was able to offer, Julia also gained a "bird's eye view" of Los Angeles during her first ever helicopter ride. Regardless of what the future holds for Julia careerwise, she already knows that she wants to rise above challenges, live out adventures and be a positive role-model like Lt. Holmes.

We're looking for an adoptive family that can embrace Julia's vibrant personality, give her different perspectives on life and provide her the guidance and support we all need along our flight path.
