Police were out in full force Monday night for the 54th Annual Target Fireworks on the Detroit River. Part of their mission was enforcing a curfew between 6 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday for anyone under the age of 18 and unaccompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Hundreds of young people were arrested for breaking the city's temporary curfew, and parents are torn on whether police had the right to cuff their kids. Watch Andrea Isom's full video report above.
Detroit police tell FOX 2 that more than 300 young people were arrested and brought to the Southwest District and bus loads more brought to the Northeast District. Kids caught breaking the mandatory curfew were ticketed and released to their parents.
Police also reporting that thanks to this curfew and additional enforcement from other agencies, there were no violent crimes reported during the 2012 fireworks.
