Men all over Michigan may be hearing voices the next time they go to the bathroom. They're not going crazy. It's a new program to stop drunk driving with talking urinal cakes.
The message? "Hey, listen up. That's right. I'm talking to you. Had a few drinks? Maybe a few too many? Then do yourself and everyone else a favor. Call a sober friend or a cab. Oh, and don't forget, wash your hands."
So who is behind this bathroom business? The State of Michigan is trying to make sure dudes don't get DUIs, and this bright idea is meant to be a buzz kill, sending a strong reminder so when gentlemen walk up to the john, if they have had a few too many, hopefully this will help them do the right thing to make it home safely.
It's a push to keep drunks off the road during the upcoming holiday celebration, and this federally funded program will be popping up in four counties across the state, including Wayne.
The Old Shillelagh in Detroit is one of the first bars to be down with it.
"Over the Fourth of July weekend, everybody drinks a little more, has a little more fun than they might plan on or maybe they should, and if it gets somebody to take a cab rather than drive home, all the better," said Louis Rico with The Old Shillelagh.
The initiative kicks off on Monday at The Old Shillelagh and runs through July 8.
