BREAKING NEWS: LA Police Try to Break Up Downtown Protesters

Posted: Updated:

Police in riot gear are trying to break up a crowd of about 200 protesters who are filling Los Angeles streets during downtown's monthly Art Walk, with some pelting officers with rocks and bottles.

LAPD spokeswoman Karen Rayner says there have been arrests but did not know how many, and one person was hit with a skateboard and injured, but she did not know if it was an officer or protester.

The group started filling streets at about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, and police who were on citywide tactical alert were still trying to restore order nearly two hours later.

Rayner said some began throwing rocks, bottles and other objects at officers.

Rayner said she'd heard the protesters were connected to Occupy Los Angeles, but she could not say for sure.
