Anger over Detroit city union cuts

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

Members of the Detroit Police Officer's Association call an emergency meeting - hours after Mayor Dave Bing approves sweeping cuts to the city's unions.
The officers are angry and upset and are now planning their response.

Wednesday, Maybe Bing announced plans to impose the new union contracts effective immediately. Contracts for nearly all of the city's 48 collective bargaining units expired June 30th. Despite City Council's Tuesday "no" vote, Mayor Bing is imposing 10% union pay cuts, changes to work rules and major cuts to health care. It's a move that will save the city $102 million a year

Some officers say the cuts are enough to push them out of the city and the department.
