Combat Pilot from Mad Catz is a new flight simulation, multiplayer game that looks pretty rockin'! I have to say that the game is definitely one I'll give a go at home with my own sons.
I can't say that I'm a huge flight sim fan, but one of our resident gamers here at Fox took a look at the trailer and was very enthusiastic about giving it a go. This is a PC only sim and does require a membership fee. The fee is $49.95 for the first month, then $11.99 a month thereafter. The first month's fee actually gets you full access to the game and levels which includes:
- 30-Day Full Access to the Combat Pilot Environment including: Flight Training Operations, Fighter Lead-In Training, choice of over 24 different careers, check rides, access to the pilots lounge, voice communications, squadron creation, multiplayer flying, and much more.
- (3) detailed aircraft (created by A2A) including: CP-T-6B/CP-AT-6B, CP-T45C, and CP-T-38C (a $75 value). These aircraft can be flown both inside the Combat Pilot multiplayer environment as well as offline via FSX.
- (7) Military Bases including: NAS Pensacola, NAS Jacksonville, NAS Corpus Christi, NAS Oceana, NAS Fallon, Sheppard AFS, and NAS Whiting Field (also accessible offline via FSX).
The game is PC only and runs on Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista or Windows 7 and is currently closed though the website is up at http://combatpilotseries.com. What does that mean? You can hit that link and read all about the community, the YouTube channel aka KillCam repository and more on pricing and DLC but you can't actually play the game yet because it hasn't launched. San Diego – July 24, 2012 – Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. ("Mad Catz") (NYSE MKT: MCZ) announced today that it will launch a new flight simulation experience entitled Combat Pilot in the summer of 2012. Combat Pilot introduces multiplayer, military aviation and combat operations to the realistic world of flight simulation, where simulation enthusiasts from around the world can train, fly, fight and interact together.
Combat Pilot was developed by Mad Catz' internal ThunderHawk Studios™ and represents the first ever interactive, multiplayer combat simulation built around Flight Simulator X™ from Microsoft® (sold separately).
Those entering the Combat Pilot universe must qualify to earn their wings in order to fly with others in the community. The proprietary, multiplayer engine, as well as the regulated military environment, sets Combat Pilot apart from any other flight simulation experience.
"We believe that Combat Pilot will prove to be an important destination for the flight simulation community to gather, interact, and share experiences," said Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. "Mad Catz' Saitek™ brand and flight simulation is an important part of our company's culture and Combat Pilot will allow the flight simulation community to come together and interact as never before."
