Anaheim, CA -
Relatives and friends of a Mount San Antonio College student shot to death by a Pomona police officer in October 2011 stage a protest outside City Hall.
Andres Avila, 26, of Pomona, reportedly was sleeping with his girlfriend in his car when they were approached by two Pomona officers on patrol. Officials said Avila became uncooperative and violent, leading to the shooting. Avilla was unarmed, said attorney Luis A. Carrillo.
The protest demonstration took place at the start of a City Council meeting at which relatives of Avila are demanding a federal probe into his death.
In Anaheim residents are demanding a state investigation into a series of police shootings, two of them fatal. They want a state investigation and a full review of the police department's response.
