What Tshaka didn't mention on the air is that you should also consider using Dropbox.com to back up your photos while on the go! Head on over to Dropbox.com and sign up for an account, then download the app to your Android or iOS device and turn on "Instant Upload." Once turned on, your cellphone will upload any photos or videos directly to a folder on your Dropbox account. This is ideal for your travels as a great back up in case you lose your phone with all of those wonderful picture and video memories. The Dropbox service is free up to 2GB of storage and you can always pay for more space if you need it (they even let you share a special code with friends and if they sign up, you get more space for free)!
In addition, if you do lose your phone while on vacation, call your service provider and see if they offer a "Family Locator" service. These are services which allow you to locate the cellphone of a family member (generally your children) whose phone is also on your account. The great thing about these services is that they allow to track a phone on your account without having to install any software directly on the lost phone. Yes, that's right…. You don't have to lose a phone then think, "Darnit! I never put any tracking software on it." If you're an iPhone user, please don't wait until this happens to turn on the built-in Find My Phone feature.
