5 Quake Ready Tips and my take on it. Christine Devine
YEP! I'm just like you. Living in quake country... and not a 100% quake ready.
We've all heard the tips. Stock up on water, food, get a quake kit. Ok... yes, I do have those things. But then again, I do work in news and have done a quake story or two making it easy for me to buy such supplies.
So, I wanted to share what I knew, but make it EASY for you to actually take some action. Step one... get your buns to a store and grab a few things, throw 'em in a bin and ... VOILA... YOU have started a quake kit!
It's that simple. The Red Cross even took me to Target for supply shopping... those sample shampoos, soaps, duct tape, a back pack, wipes, toilet paper, granola bars, water bottles... and a big plastic bin for storage.
I would never have believed "it would actually happen to me"... until I talked to my co-anchor Carlos Amezcua who was hit hard by the Northridge quake and, luckily, had a motor home... and had to live in it for a while! I don't have a motor home. You probably don't either. But I do have a quake bin!
Fox 11 will have 5 QUAKE READY TIP Series of short "quake ready" stories over time. In this one... the fabulously funny Gunnar Kuepper, a quake expert, shares his serious side. I asked for his five tips to be quake ready. In tonight's topic he explains why you should: have a quake kit, secure your home, know your neighbors, have a communication plan, teach your kids... creating a quake ready culture.
