Tashana Kalka got into an abusive relationship when she was just 15. Her family says for two years she was beaten and abused, but finally decided to leave two months ago. Her mother now says her abusive ex made good on his promise, "If I can't have you, no one can."
Marsha Kalka's 17-year-old daughter, Tashana, was murdered in a drive-by shooting.
"She was a beautiful, young lady, and she just started liking a boy and he became abusive," she said. "At first, it wasn't like that. In the middle of the relationship, that's when he became abusive, and she said he would call and threaten her and say, 'I'm going to kill you. If I can't have you, nobody else can.' And she came home plenty of times beat up, black eyes, and I just kept trying to talk to her and talk to her. Eventually she just left him, alone on her own. Then he got wind that she was with another boy and somehow they bumped into each other in the streets, and he came and shot the car up and killed her and the other boy."
The shooting was in broad daylight in the middle of the street at the Southfield Freeway service drive and Cathedral. Police say Kalka and her male friend and another young lady left a gathering at a Detroit home after an altercation, but the Mercury Grand Marquis they were in was followed by at least two men in a black SUV. The car Kalka was in was riddled with bullets, police say likely from an AK-47.
"I just hope they catch them because my baby didn't deserve that," said her mother.
A restraining fence could have very well kept the car from catapulting onto the freeway. The teenage male victim tried to run from the car, but he collapsed and died in the road. The other girl in the car suffered only cuts to her face. She'll be okay, but Kalka never got out of the car, the life of a teenage girl tragically cut short.
The young man that was killed has not been identified. Police say at least two men were involved in this shooting and they're looking for them.
The family could use help paying for the funeral. They are hosting an all you can eat spaghetti dinner at Billeos Bar and Grill at 19164 Kelly Road in Detroit next Friday at 5:00 p.m.
They are also opening a fund in Tashana's name at Comerica Bank.
